Hebrew
Language instruction is accomplished, in part,
through application of The NETA Program. The
NETA project helps to promote students’ understanding
of their history, culture, and tradition; excite
them about lifelong Jewish learning; foster
a sense of belonging to the Jewish people; and
cultivate strong ties with Medinat Israel (the
State of Israel) and Am Israel (the Jewish People)..
The NETA program
focuses on the four major language acquisition
skills: 1. listening 2. speaking 3. reading 4.
writing.
The program immerses students in a wide range
of genres including:
Classical Hebrew texts, Israeli music, Historical
documents, Poetry and drama, Biblical Hebrew,
Mishnaic Hebrew, Modern Hebrew..
Hebrew is taught in its linguistic, cultural
and spiritual context with concrete references.
Lessons are centered on themes of interest, ranging
from computers and sports to friendship and freedom.
Each theme is presented from the perspectives:
of Jewish tradition, modern Israeli culture,
and general world knowledge, including art, science,
mathematics, literature and philosophy.
NETA would like to create a community of Hebrew speakers
who can enjoy a lecture in Hebrew, read a Hebrew book,
participate in a serious discussion or casual conversation
in Hebrew, read an article in an Israeli newspaper,
and write a letter to the editor in Hebrew. |
